We had fun filming the video for Ayanna Witter-Johnson’s single ‘Colour War’. Ayanna adds a moving storytelling visual narrative to a simply shot, solo performance to camera. Aiming to capture the emotional context of the song, the visuals move from a symbolic stark monochrome into colour, and back to monochrome, as we see Ayanna perform with her cello. The video powerfully expresses the sentiment of the song and the multi-layered dynamics and reality of the ‘Colour War’, which reflects the injustice of colourism and feeling othered and is inspired by the events of 2020 up to now. The track is underscored by hope and the need to stand in your greatness, despite the challenges faced.
