This vintage Indian brass water jar, commonly known as a Lota or Kalash, is a solid, traditional example of South Asian metalware suitable for decorative use. This jar is showing typical regional craftsmanship and design, likely dating from the mid-20th century or earlier.
Made from heavy-gauge brass with a natural aged patina and slight colour variations that reflect hand-worked metal, the jar has a classic rounded body and features a wide, flared rim or neck with an internal silvery tone, possibly from a separate tin or steel component or from internal tinning/plating, which is common in traditional Indian utility vessels.
Shows some expected vintage wear, including tarnish, minor surface marks, and small signs of use consistent with its purpose. These elements support its authenticity and age.
Suitable as a decorative piece, a simple accent, a vase for dried or fresh flowers, or part of a collection of global or traditional crafts.
